Virtual office providers usually offer their services as a package, which in addition to the virtual office itself also includes, for example, mail pick-up and scanning, 24-hour reception, etc. However, most business owners do not take advantage of these benefits because they conveniently handle important shipments through their data box in combination with a mailing address. All they really want is a regisoffice at a good address with the ability to receive mail – and nothing more.
In order to do business, you must have a statutory registered office. Previously, these registered offices could only be physical, but thanks to an amendment to the Civil Code in 2009, your registered office can now also be virtual.
A virtual registered office fulfils all the legal requirements, but the entrepreneur only rents this address and does not use it physically. Perhaps because he does not need such an office for his business at all, he wants to minimize initial costs, or his business is mainly conducted in the field (e.g. traders, carriers, taxi drivers).
You can have a registered office in your own apartment, but we do not recommend it for several reasons. First of all, you need to have consent for the location of the office. If the property is in your personal ownership, then this is fine, but otherwise you need a notarized signature from the owner or a board member of the co-op. And that’s where things can quickly go wrong. Alternatively, if you want to run your business while still a student, there may be a similar problem with your parents, who may be rightly concerned (e.g. because of a possible foreclosure) and won’t allow you to set up a office. In addition, with a private address, you must also take into account the mandatory signage of the company on the building and this is often disturbing and unwanted by the neighbours, for example.
The address of the registered office should also be taken into account. If you live in the centre of Prague, you probably won’t have to deal with this, but in other places it is already food for thought. Many entrepreneurs and clients still prefer prestigious addresses in office buildings that are representative – the centre of Prague or Brno are ideal for these needs.
